We are specialists for internet solutions. Starting in 1997 as “web4all GbR”, we are known as netzkern GmbH since 2001 and as netzkern AG since 2011. What started as a 2-person office evolved into one of Germany’s leading digital agencies with 100 employees in Wuppertal and Hamburg. When we started, we only designed and developed websites in HTML and Flash; today we conceive, develop and implement complex business processes, individual web-based software, corporate websites, intranet portals and e-business as well as e-commerce systems. We are Germany’s leading experts for Sitecore.

Our History at a Glance


Thomas Golatta and Daniel Schulten found web4all.

The first project is the first website of the dance school Schäfer in Wuppertal. This project already uses basic entry masks for the course program.


Web4all acquires the German Tele2-Group as first big client and develops web banners and multiple online competitions based on Flash for the European websites of the Tele2 group.


“The internet becomes the core of our society and web4all becomes netzkern”: Thomas Golatta and Daniel Schulten found the netzkern GmbH.


netzkern evaluates leading content management systems for Tele 2. The winner is: Sitecore.

netzkern becomes Sitecore Certified Solution Partner.


Relaunch of the Tele2 website based on the evaluated CMS Sitecore.


The Core, the company office, is now too small. netzkern moves into the VillaMedia and now fills more than 300 square metres.

netzkern is listed among the “Technology Fast 50 Germany” by the renowned consultancy Deloitte in Düsseldorf.


netzkern participates in the CeBIT for the first time. Together with Sitecore, the two partners increase the market presence of the then relatively obscure CMS in Germany.

netzkern presents Sitecore’s new “Online Marketing Suite” and implements the first personalisation functionalities in websites.

For the second time in row, netzkern is listed among the “Technology Fast 50 Germany” by Deloitte in Hamburg.


netzkern relaunches Tele2 Germany with integrated Sitecore functionalities: The new online order process integrates individual cross-selling and up-selling options.

netzkern becomes an AG (joint-stock company). This is not done to go to the stock exchange but to offer the employees a share in what they are working for: netzkern.

netzkern exhibits at the CeBIT for the third time, together with Sitecore. The continuous presence shows results: Sitecore attracts more and more corporations that build their website with this innovative system. This leads to the acquisition of new big clients: Bayer, uponor, and MontBlanc.


The first projects for Bayer are launched as well as the global uponor website that netzkern reworked.

netzkern manages to enter the list of top 100 German internet agencies and ranks in the top 10 of the fastest-growing German internet agencies (Source: Internetagenturranking 2012).

More commerce projects with Sitecore: For Montblanc, we launch the new website and the global online shop based on Sitecore and SAP; for FahnenHerold we set up an online shop based on Insite and Sitecore.

With the initiative “E-Mobil 100”, 100 new electric vehicles are approved in Wuppertal – our Twizzy is one of them.

For the first time in the company’s ten-year-history, netzkern is awarded with the Wuppertaler Wirtschaftspreis as Business of the Year.

At the end of the year, the new Core is ready to move in. netzkern will now work in a 700 square metre factory loft that has been structurally restored with modern energy standards, heat pumps, and triple glazing.


Markus Grün, CTO and member of executive management, is named as the only German “Sitecore Most Valuable Professional” by Sitecore for his dedication, and knowledge from over 6 years of project experience with Sitecore.

netzkern asserts its place in the top 100 of German internet agencies (Source: Internetagenturranking 2012).

We expand our data centre and start hosting all global websites of uponor.

From Hannover to Cologne: With Sitecore and two other partners, we demonstrate know-how about Sitecore and the web at the dmexco, the leading trade fair for digital marketing.

netzkern becomes the biggest and most experienced Kentico Gold Partner in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with more than 9 certified developers and more than 40 projects.


The Core grows. We move into the newly-developed ground floor of the old Winkelsträter Fabrik and grow to 1400 square metres. With the Nice-Wall we use the multi-media innovation room from Bene as first agency in Germany – and with the “netzkern Arena”, Wuppertal’s first foosball stadium opens. ;)

We further expand our expertise and our team grows to 50 employees, among them specialists for online marketing, consulting, and in the data centre.

In the internet agency ranking we prowl forward to rank 78.


We grow to more than 60 employees and win new renowned clients with DA Direkt, Dune London, Kiel Verlag and Hopfgarten Rechtsanwälte. In the internet agency rating we climb to rank 72.

In August, we open our new office in Hamburg, in the “Phönixhof” in the middle of the lively district of Altona.


Our now over 75 employees conquer rank 55 in the internet agency ranking.

With Christopher Wojcieh, Head of Consulting Group, once more one of our colleagues is named as only Sitecore Most Valuable Professional (MVP) ion Germany. On his initiative, the Sitecore Usergroup Germany is founded as registrered association and he is elected as first chairman.

In Wuppertal, our Core grows into the top floor and becomes known as the “mountain pasture”, our rooms for special projects and agile project work. In Hamburg, our office becomes too small and we move: In the KühneVision the new Hamburg Core is built according to our plans.

We become Sitecore lead agency at Vonovia, Festool, and Düsseldorf Airpirt; we launch the global distributor portal for the SMS group and develop the web app for Vorwerk’s Thermomix recipe portal.
Two of our Sitecore projects are awarded with the “Sitecore Experience Award” due to their outstanding results for our clients.

Our data centre becomes unique, as in doubly redundant: two independent server clusters at two independent physical locations, connected with dark fibre. Downtime is now a thing of the past. All data is stored at both locations and connection sessions can be switched within milliseconds.


With lots of new business and new projects, we enter the top 50 of Germany’s biggest digital agencies.

Together with the Wuppertaler Bühnen and the University of Vienna, we develop a unique project to entice a young audience to the opera through digital interconnection: ShareYourOpera.

Based on Kentico Commerce, we launch the web shop for the delicatessen brand Ghorban – another milestone in our commerce knowledge.

Once more, we launch a website for our long-time client Barmenia: Impact Finanz is build as a modular system based on Kentico CMS.


It’s confirmed: We are one of the best employers of Germany and in the top15 of the “Internet” industry. This is confirmed in a joint study by Focus Business and kununu.

For Cognigy AI, an AI software for intelligent language processing, we develop an interface to Sitecore.

Christopher Wojciech is again Sitecore Most Valuable Professional (MVP) - now for the fourth time.
